Nearby Gas Station Map Guide
What is Nearby Gas Station Map?
The Nearby Gas Station Map is a location-based service that helps drivers find gas stations in their vicinity and compare fuel prices in real time. Built on an interactive Leaflet map with OpenStreetMap tiles, it provides a visual, intuitive interface for locating the cheapest or closest fuel source. The service draws its data from OPINET, the official fuel price information system operated by the Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), which collects real-time price data from virtually every gas station across South Korea. This makes it one of the most reliable and comprehensive fuel price comparison tools available. Each station marker on the map displays the current retail price for your selected fuel type, allowing instant visual comparison without clicking through individual listings. Detailed station information includes the brand (SK, GS Caltex, S-Oil, Hyundai, etc.), full address, phone number, and available facilities such as car wash, convenience store, vehicle maintenance, and quality certification status. Whether you are on a road trip looking for the cheapest fuel nearby, commuting and wanting to optimize your regular fill-up location, or simply exploring fuel prices in a different neighborhood, this tool provides all the information you need to make an informed fueling decision and potentially save significant money over time.
How to use
Step 1: When you first open the tool, it will request permission to access your location. Allow this for the best experience — your current position will be marked on the map and used as the search center. If you deny location access, the map defaults to Seoul City Hall.
Step 2: Select your fuel type from the dropdown menu. Options include Gasoline (most common), Diesel, LPG, and Premium Gasoline. The prices displayed on markers and in the station list will reflect your chosen fuel type.
Step 3: Choose a search radius. Options range from 1 km (for dense urban areas) to 5 km (for suburban or rural areas). Start with a smaller radius and expand if you do not find enough results.
Step 4: Select your preferred sort order — by Price (lowest first) to find the cheapest fuel, or by Distance (nearest first) for convenience.
Step 5: Click 'Search Nearby Stations' to load results. Markers appear on the map showing each station's price, and a scrollable list below shows station details.
Step 6: Click any marker on the map or any item in the list to view detailed station information including brand, address, phone number, all fuel prices, and available facilities.
Step 7: Pan or zoom the map to explore a different area, then click 'Search this area' to find stations around the new map center. This is useful for planning stops along a route or checking prices in a different neighborhood.
Tip: Fuel prices can vary by 200-300 KRW/L within the same neighborhood, so checking before filling up can save 10,000-15,000 KRW on a full tank.
Search Information
Search Mechanics:
- Radius Search: Finds all registered gas stations within the selected radius (1, 2, 3, or 5 km) from the search center point (your location or map center)
- Sort by Price: Stations are ordered from lowest to highest price for the selected fuel type, helping you find the cheapest option
- Sort by Distance: Stations are ordered from nearest to farthest, helping you find the most convenient option
- The search center updates when you pan the map and click 'Search this area'
Fuel Types Available:
- Gasoline: Most common passenger car fuel, RON 91-94
- Premium Gasoline: Higher octane RON 95+, recommended for performance/luxury vehicles
- Diesel: For diesel-engine vehicles, typically 100-200 KRW/L cheaper than gasoline
- LPG: For LPG-converted vehicles, significantly cheaper per liter but with lower energy density
Facility Information:
- Car Wash: On-site automated or hand car wash service
- Convenience Store: On-site convenience store for snacks and supplies
- Maintenance: Basic vehicle maintenance services available
- Quality Certified: Station has passed the KNOC quality certification program, ensuring fuel meets official standards
Data Source and Freshness:
- All price data comes from OPINET (Korea National Oil Corporation)
- Prices are updated daily by each station as required by law
- The data typically reflects current-day or previous-day prices
- Cached for short periods to ensure fast response times
Useful tips
Price differences between stations can be substantial. Even within the same city block, prices can differ by 50-100 KRW per liter, and across a neighborhood, differences of 200-300 KRW/L are common. On a 50-liter fill-up, a 200 KRW/L difference means saving 10,000 KRW — worth a short detour.
Self-service stations are almost always cheaper. Stations with self-service pumps typically charge 50-100 KRW/L less than full-service stations. If you are comfortable pumping your own fuel, this is one of the easiest ways to save consistently.
Brand does not always determine price. While independent stations tend to be cheaper on average, individual branded stations (SK, GS Caltex, S-Oil, Hyundai) can be very competitive, especially in areas with strong competition. Do not assume a particular brand is always expensive or cheap.
Quality certification matters. Stations with the KNOC quality certification badge have been verified to sell fuel that meets official standards. While fuel adulteration is rare in Korea, choosing certified stations provides an extra layer of assurance, particularly for independent or unfamiliar brands.
Fuel prices tend to follow weekly patterns. Prices often rise slightly before weekends and holidays when demand increases, and may dip mid-week. If your schedule is flexible, filling up on Tuesday or Wednesday can sometimes save a small amount.
If the map shows your location inaccurately, do not worry. Simply pan the map to your actual location and use the 'Search this area' button. Desktop browsers using Wi-Fi positioning can be less accurate than mobile devices with GPS. For the best location accuracy, use this tool on a mobile device with GPS enabled.
Consider the total cost of a detour. If the cheapest station is 5 km out of your way, the fuel cost of driving there and back might negate the savings, especially for small price differences. Use the distance information to calculate whether the detour is worthwhile.
Keep an eye on fuel price trends. Global oil prices, exchange rates, and government tax policies all influence Korean fuel prices. Filling up when prices dip — rather than waiting until your tank is empty — can save money over time.
